Ottawa, Canada — : Pleora Technologies, the world’s leading supplier of high-performance video interfaces, has been invited to participate in a technology forum promoting Canadian innovation for “smart city” solutions in China. Hosted by the Canadian Trade Commission, the road show is visiting Shenzhen, Chengdu, Wuhan, and Wuxi from November 17-24, 2014.
China’s Twelfth Five-Year Plan, adopted in 2011, highlighted smart city technology as an area to be strengthened and encouraged through sponsorships and industry alliances. Today, over 300 cities have proposed or are piloting smart city initiatives that focus on developing new technologies to engage with citizens, make better use of infrastructure, reduce environmental impact, and support economic development.
Real-time traffic and infrastructure monitoring, control, and analysis is a key objective in many smart city initiatives. As part of the Smart City Road Show, Pleora will be discussing how its video interface expertise provides design, usability, and cost advantages for manufacturers and integrators deploying imaging solutions for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) applications.
- In free-flow tolling applications, Pleora’s external frame grabbers have been widely deployed to convert existing Camera Link or analog cameras into GigE Vision® cameras. Designers can then leverage the benefits of GigE – including networking, longer cable reach, multicasting, and ubiquitous computing support – to increase reliability and lower costs. With Pleora’s iPORT NTx-W Embedded Video Interface, designers can integrate wireless GigE Vision connectivity directly into cameras to eliminate cabling.
- Designed into railway inspection systems, Pleora’s iPORT CL-Ten Full External Frame Grabber transforms Camera Link Full cameras into GigE Vision-compliant cameras. As a result, integrators can deploy multipoint, real-time video networks to automatically monitor railcar structural components, safety appliances, and track integrity.
- Pleora’s Transcoding Gateway preserves low-latency, uncompressed video and redistributes the image feed to users with less strict demands in applications with image processing and live viewing requirements. The appliance automatically converts video from GigE Vision or USB3 Vision™ cameras into H.264-compressed video that can be transmitted over a wired or wireless connection to a playback device, including embedded PCs, tablets, and smartphones. In traffic monitoring applications, high-resolution video required for automated tolling can be compressed and sent to a centralized operations center for live monitoring. Previously, multiple cameras would be required to provide the video feeds.
“Pleora’s video interface solutions have been globally deployed in ITS applications to help create centralized, more efficient real-time traffic management,” said Harry Chen, sales engineer with Pleora. “Chinese manufacturers and integrators can leverage their market knowledge, together with our leading products, system knowledge, and design expertise, to deliver local technology solutions targeting smart city opportunities.”
