Pleora and CEI Break USB3 Vision Deployment Barriers at Automate

Pleora Technologies today announced interoperability between its USB3 Vision™-compliant video interfaces and extended-reach USB 3.0 cabling from Components Express Incorporated (CEI). Pleora, the world’s leading supplier of high-performance video interfaces, and CEI, a leader in machine vision cabling technology, are demonstrating the performance advantages of their USB3 Vision products at Automate 2015 in Chicago, March 23-26, 2015 (Booth#948).

As USB3 Vision gains market adoption, the typical three-meter limitation of USB 3.0 cabling poses installation challenges in imaging applications requiring extended reach. For example, cameras must often be located away from machinery to eliminate interference in electrically noisy automation applications. In interoperability testing, Pleora’s USB3 Vision video interfaces and CEI’s Bitmaxx USB3 Vision cable supported error-free image transfer at data rates consistently exceeding 3 Gb/s over a 25-meter distance.

“Our USB3 Vision video interfaces are winning designs in industrial, medical, and security applications thanks to their high bandwidth, ubiquitous computing platform support, and plug-and-play usability,” said John Phillips, Senior Manager, Product Management with Pleora. “Successful interoperability with CEI’s cabling solution will help drive even faster adoption of USB 3.0 imaging systems in applications where distance is a key requirement.”

At the Automate show, Pleora will showcase the performance of its USB3 Vision video interfaces, including plug-and-play external frame grabbers that convert Camera Link cameras into USB3 Vision cameras and embedded hardware for fast integration of standard-compliant video connectivity into cameras and imaging devices.

In the live demonstration, video from a Camera Link camera is converted into USB3 Vision video by Pleora’s iPORT CL-U3 External Frame Grabber. The USB3 Vision video is then transmitted with low latency over CEI’s extended-reach Bitmaxx USBVision cable to Pleora’s Transcoder Gateway. The Transcoder Gateway automatically converts the image stream into the H.264 compression format. The compressed video is then transmitted over wired and wireless connections using RTSP (real time streaming protocol) to a display panel and a tablet, and can be saved to USB-attached storage media.

“CEI’s Bitmaxx USB3Vision cable uses pre-emphasis and equalization techniques to maintain signal integrity and counter the effects of attenuation, resulting in an extended-reach solution that addresses the critical shortcomings of typical USB 3.0 cabling,” said Steve Mott, Vice President, Components Express, Inc. “By demonstrating our interoperability with Pleora’s USB3 Vision video interfaces, we’re providing manufacturers with more flexible system design options to help drive the deployment of USB3 Vision products into new imaging applications.”
