Pleora’s broadcast products provide a quick and easy solution for a common problem — lack of direct access to fiber-based backbones at remote locations — by delivering the data in an Asynchronous Serial Interface (ASI) or MPEG Transport Stream (TS) via Internet Protocol (IP).

This transport stream, which delivers either standard- or high-definition video channels, allows broadcasters to take advantage of low-cost wired or wireless IP transmission systems. In doing so, the need for transmission using a licensed RF band is reduced or eliminated. In addition, because video transmission over IP uses the real-time protocol (RTP) standard, transmissions from ASI-to-IP or TS-to-IP gateways can be received by off-the-shelf hardware and software solutions.

Why Internet Protocol (IP)?

Broadcasters choose Pleora’s ASI-to-IP and TS-to-IP gateways to broadcast from remote sites to central locations for the following reasons:

  • Ease of use: Reliable, quick, and easy set-up at remote sites is critical and our products are field-tested and proven.
  • Low-cost: With Pleora’s IP gateways, broadcasters can access low-cost wired or wireless IP transmission systems.

Broadcast over IP applications

Some of the many applications for Pleora’s broadcast and broadcast equipment products are:

  • Special venue events at remote locations to central production facilities.
  • Security hot spots to command and control centers.
  • Weather-monitoring locales to central monitoring stations.

IP gateways in action

In the example broadcast application below, a central weather monitoring organization receives cost-effective, real-time IP video feeds from remote cameras placed strategically throughout its broad coverage area.
