Strategic Linux enhancement expands Pleora’s GigE solutions set
OTTAWA, CANADA, February 24, 2009: Pleora Technologies, the industry’s leading supplier of Gigabit Ethernet (GigE) video connectivity solutions, today unveiled new capabilities for its iPORT™ Software Development Kit (SDK) that significantly enhance solutions sets for customers with Linux operating systems.
With Version 3.0.0 of the iPORT Vision Suite for Linux, Pleora’s iPORT SDK now allows Linux-based GigE imaging solutions to run on ultra-wide 64-bit architectures, effectively doubling the level of processing power available to Linux developers. Linux – an open-source development platform known for its security, reliability, and low cost – is the operating system of choice among many developers in the medical and military imaging sectors.
“Pleora’s newest iPORT SDK enhancement meets growing demand for next-generation processing support from Linux-based customers whose applications must quickly and efficiently calculate very large data sets,” said Geoff MacGillivray, Product Manager, Pleora Technologies. “This innovation rounds out the offerings for 64-bit platforms in Pleora’s feature-rich SDK, complementing the support in our software for these architectures under the Windows Vista and XP operating systems.”
Image acquisition systems based on 64-bit system architectures can accommodate more cameras and additional image processing requirements by overcoming limitations of traditional 32-bit architectures. For instance, whereas 32-bit systems are limited to 4 GB (gigabytes) of random access memory (RAM), a 64-bit system can support virtually unlimited amounts of RAM.
The iPORT SDK for Linux is part of Pleora’s award-winning iPORT Connectivity Solution. All elements of this end-to-end solution, including iPORT IP Engines, industry-leading eBUS drivers, SDKs, and other software tools, work as an integrated whole to enhance GigE-based, camera-to-PC connections.
