PNW Net’s global-reaching Video Services transport HDTV over VLANs, using Pleora’s EtherCast™ Video IP Engines™
- Production-ready deployment of Video Services meets long-haul video transport needs for service providers, carriers, and broadcasters
Ottawa, Canada and Seattle (WA), April 11, 2007. Pacific Northwest (PNW) Net and Pleora Technologies today announced the successful deployment of PNW Net’s Video Services – a global video-over-IP transport service that reliably transports broadcast quality video, including DVB-ASI (Digital Video Broadcast – Asynchronous Serial Interface), over Layer 2 VLANs (virtual local-area networks). Built around Pleora’s affordable EtherCast™ PL1453 Video IP Engines™, PNW Video Services offer SDTV and HDTV transport services to customers in North America, Europe and Asia.
The deployment of PNW Net’s Video Services builds on successful trials conducted last year where Pleora’s EtherCast engines transported an ASI-encoded 19.39-Mb/s ATSC/HDTV (Advanced Television Systems Committee/High-Definition Television) signal in real time from Seattle to London and back again for a continuous 24-hour period. The rigorous trials proved that the EtherCast Video IP Engines are capable of delivering professional results in a real-world environment while maintaining a very attractive price point.
“Pleora’s EtherCast engines deliver reliable DVB-ASI transport over VLANs for less than one quarter the per-port price of equipment from other vendors,” said Pat Holland, Vice- President and Chief Technology Officer of Pacific Northwest Net. “We can now offer a new class of video services that gives broadcasters and other enterprises an affordable, practical way to transport broadcast-quality digital video.”
“Today, Layer 2 VLANs are available to points of presence in just about every major center worldwide. Our EtherCast Video IP Engines meet demand from service providers, carriers, and broadcasters for affordable products that leverage these low-cost networks for broadcast-quality video,” said George Chamberlain, President of Pleora Technologies.
Pleora’s EtherCast Video IP Engines and Systems convert video signals to IP packets using ultra-efficient, purpose-built hardware. All models feature multi-casting support, guaranteed data delivery, extremely low jitter and are ideal for OEMs and video transport service providers.
