Innovative GigE display technology adds rich new dimension to Pleora's Industry-leading Video Connectivity Solutions
- vDisplay™ IP (Internet Protocol) engines slash size, cost, and power consumption of real-time viewing stations on GigE (Gigabit Ethernet) networks
OTTAWA, CANADA, April 14, 2009: Pleora Technologies, the industry's leading supplier of GigE video connectivity solutions, today unveiled the technology platform for vDisplay™, a ground-breaking family of IP engines that shrinks the size, cost, and power requirements of real-time viewing stations on high-performance GigE networks. Pleora's compact and affordable vDisplay IP engines acquire video directly from a GigE network and display it on a standard digital monitor, eliminating the need for bulky and costly PC clients at each viewing node.
The increasing use of GigE networks to support real-time broadband video systems in the military, medical, and machine vision sectors is creating demand for small-footprint peripherals to replace the PCs used at viewing stations. Pleora’s vDisplay IP engines meet this demand with dedicated, low-latency hardware that efficiently converts GigE video feeds to HDMI/DVI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface/Digital Visual Interface) formats. HDMI and DVI are the standard digital TV interfaces used by monitors to receive uncompressed video.
vDisplay IP engines fit in the palm of the hand and draw only 3.2 W – less than 5% of the power required by a PC. These attributes make the engines an excellent fit for video installations where size and power are paramount, such as those in factory floors, hospital operating rooms, and military applications.
"Pleora's singular focus on video connectivity solutions has given us the expertise and experience we need to be the innovation leader in this field," said George Chamberlain, President of Pleora. "The vDisplay IP engines add a rich and unique new dimension to our end-to-end solutions, allowing our customers to create video distribution networks that deliver unmatched economics, features, and performance levels."
Standards compliance
In keeping with Pleora's commitment to open standards, vDisplay IP engines are compatible with GigE Vision™, the standard for image transfer and device control managed by the Automated Imaging Association.
vDisplay IP engines accept video or imaging data from any GigE Vision-compliant camera. The engines also interoperate with cameras based on other video formats, including analog, LVDS (low-voltage differential signaling), or Camera Link, as long as the cameras are connected to GigE Vision-compliant converters, such as one of Pleora's standalone iPORT™ IP Engines.
Advanced display interface
Pleora's vDisplay IP engines feature a highly flexible interface architecture that matches most of the image formats and pixel types used in today's high-performance sensors and cameras with the refresh rates and resolutions supported by HDMI/DVI monitors.
If the incoming frame rate on the GigE link is slower, for instance, than the refresh rate of the monitor, the engines continue to display the 'current frame' on the monitor until a new frame is available. If the resolution of the incoming image doesn't exactly fit the monitor, the engine will center or crop the image as necessary to enhance the viewing experience. These optimizations are transparent to the user, making vDisplay engines deceptively simple to use.
Prototypes of the first member in Pleora's family of vDisplay IP engines are now entering field trials with lead customers. To participate in this program, please contact sales@pleora.com.
